EXPLORE THE METHODS OF TREATMENT

Partial Hospitalization

Partial Hospitalization

Numerous drug treatment centers exist in Mississippi, but they aren’t all alike. If you are seeking help for yourself or a loved one, you need to understand the differences to make the right choice. While many people know about residential treatment and outpatient rehab, they may not be familiar with partial hospitalization programs.

What are Partial Hospitalization Programs?

Partial hospitalization programs are also referred to as day/night treatment programs. They are more structured than outpatient programs but less so than residential treatment facilities. These programs can be used for initial treatment or as continuing treatment after completing an inpatient program. They generally offer varying length of treatment based on the addict’s needs, such as 30 days, 60 days or even 90 days.

When a person signs up for treatment at a Mississippi PHP, they will receive intensive therapy during the day for several hours. They are supervised and may begin with detoxification. They often receive medications as well as therapy in an individual or group setting. These facilities also provide drug education, family therapy and relapse prevention.

After the treatment is complete for the day, the person may go home or to a sober living center. If the center is associated with the PHP, they may receive transportation to and from the sober living center. They will spend the night and return the next day for more treatment.

The Right Candidate for Partial Hospitalization

Not everyone will benefit from the design of partial hospitalization, but it offers a unique structure ideal for many addicts. For instance, a person just completing residential treatment may not feel ready to be on their own. However, they cannot remain an inpatient. They can choose a PHP to help them slowly transition to their new life. While they receive therapy during the day, they will be left on their own in the evenings to put into practice what they’ve learned.

Addicts with a strong network of friends and family at home may find a PHP as their best option. They receive the needed treatment during the day while ensuring they have personal support at night. This allows them to maintain contact with those they love and help provide encouragement to keep moving forward.

While some people will require more care than a PHP can provide, many addicts will find the balance the perfect setting. People with family and friends who can be with them in the evening will have a lower risk of relapse even without the professional help found in inpatient programs.

Choosing Partial Hospitalization

It’s important to remember that not all partial hospitalization programs are the same. Some include sober living homes while others do not. You will have to decide if you or your loved one needs a safe residence or if living at home at night will be beneficial

Other differences between programs include treatments offered. Just like with residential programs, you can find individual therapy, group therapy, alternative therapy, pharmacology and other treatments. When comparing programs, you must consider what is offered and if they have everything to meet your needs. Many of these facilities treat dual diagnosis as well.

Finding Treatment

Take the time to research your options for treatment in Mississippi. Find out the details and take a tour of the centers. Ask questions to learn more about what each one offers. Being successful at addiction recovery often hinges on the program you choose. Don’t make a decision on the first one you find, but choose the one that you feel will
